WARM GRAVES, Ease

Sette anni dopo il debutto con “Ships Will Come” Jonas Wehner da Lipsia torna col moniker Warm Graves e con Ease, in uscita su Fuzz Club. Stando a quanto scritto nel press kit, di “agio” Wehner sembra averne avuto poco: in sette anni, racconta, ha visto la sua vita cambiare, a sentire il risultato “compresso nelle nove tracce dell’album”, non certo per il meglio. Ease appare allora un titolo quasi sarcastico, di fronte alla distesa di drone dark ambient, cupi refrain coldwave e rimandi alla kosmische musik più algida e severa, che risultano in una musica depressiva e magnetica. Monoliti poliritmici tra trip-hop e techno-kraut (“Black Wine”, “Neon”, “Sound Sleeper”) si alternano a synth-pop catatonici (“Sun Escape”, “Cara”, “Nightfall Daylight”, “Ease”), finché in “Deliria” non spunta addirittura una chitarra per un momento di desolata solitudine. La musica di Warm Graves risulta tanto oltretombale quanto affascinante, anche se a tratti si ha l’impressione che le intuizioni migliori (soprattutto “Black Wine” e “Neon”) si perdano in un’inerzia auto-compiacente. In ogni caso, un felice incontro tra il synth-pop contemporaneo (la mente va a Black Marble) e le esplorazioni elettroniche della Berlin School.
