The War On Drugs

Granduciel avverte ancora troppo la mancanza di Kurt Vile. In realtà gli servirebbero davvero sintesi e una migliore capacità di mettere insieme sforzi di composizione e intenti artistici. Lost In The Dream contiene lunghe cavalcate e melodie che ingurgitano Springsteen e un rock sul genere alt.country e “grandi spazi americani”, stese su soundscape elettronici stratificati e sognanti. Il risultato è meno complicato e cesellato di quanto sembri: a volte molto riuscito (“Red Eyes” o il motorik di “An Ocean In Between The Waves”), altre meno (“Disappearing”). C’è qualcosa dei Wilco del dopo Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (la rigogliosa “Eyes To The Wind”) e si scorge una scrittura valida e radiosa. Il connubio va a farsi fottere del tutto quando i pattern ritmici risultano troppo scontati e l’elettronica proprio non riesce a intrecciarsi col “pezzo” nel modo che Adam desidera, svicolando in stoppacciose smancerie anni Ottanta (“Suffering”). In ogni caso siamo di fronte a un buon disco, che merita anche ripetuti ascolti, dovesse mai scattare la magia quando meno te lo aspetti.
