Dai Lights ai Cliffie Swan, Sophia non cambia stile e mood neanche nel caso dell’esordio solista. Si sprecano lettere d’amore al pop anni ’70 e ’80, da Madonna ai Blondie. È ben lontana dalla parodia triste delle Lady Gaga moderne, così come distante da intenti revivalistici sterili e noiosi. Ovvio che Into The Waves catturerà gli amanti dei generi in argomento e tutti gli aficionados delle gommosità da hype del passato prossimo, nonostante i leggeri richiami folk che, in qualche maniera, giustificano l’appartenenza della Knapp al roster della Drag City. In “Spiderweb”, poi, duetta addirittura con Mr. Callahan in versione crooner smielato, un po’ caricaturale ma convincente. Tra ballate ipnotiche e groove sottopelle, il tutto non raggiunge vette particolari, ma intrattiene con gusto e mestiere.
