Dietro questo lavoro di esordio si cela Andrew Becker, ex Medications, band diremmo minore del glorioso catalogo Dischord Records. Con la sua personale etichetta, What Delicate Recordings, ha pubblicato altre piccole band del sottobosco statunitense, Deleted Scenes e gli Screens, sempre con lui dentro. In questo Heartbreak Record ci sono dieci pezzi tutti piuttosto simili fra di loro, tra ballate sciolte in placide acque shoegaze, “The Weight Of Weathering”, o la delicata ed intimista “Silverless”, ed episodi più movimentati, tipo l’andamento quasi beatlesiano di “January’s Camera” e gli improvvisi cambi di traiettoria di “If Ever… And Any…” (la migliore del lotto). A conti fatti l’intenzione di Becker sembra essere quella di musicare un dolore intimo, di sublimarlo attraverso queste composizioni uniformi nello stile e, per la verità, un pelo noiose. Sarà per la prossima volta?
